Studio Journal
A behind-the-scenes look at what it’s really like to design websites, build a business, and navigate the highs and lows of running a studio. Part creative outlet, part open notebook; imperfect, in progress, and always honest.

Not every client gets it. And that's ok.
Welcome back to my soapbox. When people ask me what type of clients I like to work with, they expect me to give them an industry or a growth stage; "Oh I love working with architects" or "We focus on service-based business in Melbourne in their first 3 years of growth". Now don't get me wrong, I do often love working with architects and service-based Melbourne businesses in their growth phase, but neither of those are my answer to that question. My answer is, I work with clie

Start small. Launch strong.
It's ok to start small. Not every brand needs a complex website. I'll be the first in line to say it. If you are in the midst of starting a business or launching a brand and the website feels like this daunting thing you don't know how to start, grab a coffee, this one is for you. Most of the time if you're in the early-stages of a new business or brand (still testing your offer, still finding your customer, still figuring out what you actually want to say) a five-page websit

A new website is the start, not the finish line
I have been saying forever that a website is never truly "finished" and I know that for a business that has just gone through a massive build, that is probably not what you want to hear right now. Humour me for a minute or two. One of my favourite things about the medium of a website is that it does have a moment where you hit publish and release your new creation into the world. And yes, you do have to get it to a level of finished before you do that. But after you do, there

Why it's never "just a website"
I have a rule. When I receive an email that makes my blood boil (the kind that deserves a reply written entirely in capital letters) I sit on it. At least 24 hours. Sometimes 48. I draft the response, I let it breathe, and then I come back to it with something resembling perspective. I apply the same rule to writing. If I sit down and the words are coming out dripping in sarcasm (which is 80% of the time), I close the laptop. I come back when I can say what I actually mean. I

Google, the 21st century bookstore
I have a confession to make ... I always judge a book by its cover. As an avid reader and absolute bookworm I would like to clarify this statement; the cover is not my only consideration when deciding whether I like a book enough to purchase it, but it is the first step. Once the cover has grabbed my attention, these are the steps that come next in my decision making process ... I read the blurb If I find that interesting I open the book and read a page (... or 4) If those op

What happens when web designers work on their own site
Once every 3 to 4 years (hint: that is the average lifespan of most websites) I find myself in the unique position of going through the process that I ask clients to go through on a daily basis. This time, I thought I'd take you along for the ride because this will be a great resource for any new clients who are unsure how to navigate a project like this, and it's a humbling experience being on the 'client' side of a project for once. And something I think most business owner

To rebrand, or not to rebrand?
2025 is the year of the rebrand. Or, every year is the year of the rebrand if you look hard enough. Businesses rebrand all the time, for a plethora of reasons. Majella Studio (formerly More Than Your Brand) is in the middle of one right now, and as we put the final tweaks to the new website and prepare to get the last piece of the rebrand puzzle ready to go out into the world, I thought it might be a good time to talk about why I did it. Firstly, introductions. I'm Veronica,
